Amphithéâtre d’O

Montpellier, France

This open air theater with 1 500 seats is designed as an antique theater and set in the natural landscaping of the park of the chateau. The lower half of the seating is below the ground level of the park, providing main entrances at the level of the cross-aisle. The upper seating areas have stairs at the back designed as spin-offs from the semi-circle.

dUCKS provided the concept design of the amphitheater and backstage circulation, and designed the scenographic machinery, theater lighting, and the infrastructure for audio and video. The continuous seating bench was also developed in close collaboration between the architects and dUCKS. In addition, dUCKS designed architectural lighting for the park and parking.

The season of the theater runs from May to mid September.
