OMA wins Toulouse Expo

4 July 2011

After an intense last round with two remaining contestants, renowned architecture firms Valode & Pistre and Atelier Christian de Portzamparc, the team of OMA won the design competition for the new Toulouse Expo. The project is a new exposition and congress facility northwest of the city of Toulouse, near the assembly facilities of Airbus.

In the first phase, the project will develop 55 000 m2 of exposition space along with meeting rooms and a large multipurpose venue. The second phase envisions almost doubling the exposition area.

dUCKS contributed to the overal concept for the building on the 200 ha terrain, and the circulation options for the various streams of visitors, staff and materials. In terms of scenographic equipment, dUCKS concentrated on the main multipurpose venue which will be used for sports and music events at various scales, offering a variable seating capacity from a few thousand to well above ten-thousand.

Construction of the first phase is planned to start at the end of 2012.
