Opening L'Astrada in Marciac

23 May 2011

Marciac has a new venue for music-theater. The building, designed by King Kong architects from Bordeaux, was inaugurated with a youth performance telling the story of the theater and, after the intermission, a roman musical with narrator Muriel Bloch and a saxophone quartett called Le Souffle des Marquises.

L'Astrada, meaning stars or destination in occitan, will become the home for the internationally renowned festival Jazz in Marciac, but will also be used for many other concerts and activities throughout the year, programmed by the Jazz association of Marciac. The room has 500 seats, and a design that welcomes both amplified and non-amplified music performance.

From the start of the design competition, dUCKS was involved with the design concept of the performance space that can be used for music concerts and small theater performance. In later phases, dUCKS designed the theater machinery and the stage lighting and performance sound systems.
