Dutch National History Museum

The Dutch NHM has invited dUCKS scéno to develop the outline concepts for their new museum building and to write the room program in the preparation of an international architectural design competition. The program will be developed in close collaboration with the directors and staff of the museum, other local consultants on the building team, and be presented to the board of trustees and, finally, the Dutch government over the summer.
The room program for the museum will be based on a set of precise orientations that have been developed for the museum in the past years. A primary aspect of is that the museum will not have its own collection. The NHM will be borrowing works from (many) other museums, as useful for the telling of its stories, the provision of historical (or artistic) context.
The museum will have three main forms of exposition: a chronological overview of Dutch history, six areas assigned to already defined themes, and a temporary exposition. The most important aspect of the museum concept builds on its public role as a provide of historical knowledge and context for many subjects, historic and current events, et cetera.
For this assignment, dUCKS scéno will working with the architectural team of Marieke Kums at MAKS in Rotterdam.
