A multifunctional theater for Luma Arles

15 April 2010

The Luma foundation has invited us to work with Gehry Partners and Tangram on the scenography for the Arles project. The site has since many years been the backdrop of the ‘Rencontres d’Arles’ one of the most important photography festivals in the world.

The development of a former industrial site that was used by the French train services SNCF includes a small theater and various exposition spaces, as well as offices and appartments.

dUCKS’ will initially concentrate on the program and concept development of a small and flexible presentation space that is part of a larger masterplan for the site. The theater will have approximately 200 seats in an end-stage setting and be used for all kinds of presentations, including theater, cinema, and expositions. dUCKS will also provide scenography design services for other exhibition spaces, as well as some of the outdoor areas.

Owner: Luma Foundation
Architects: Gehry Partners and Tangram Architectes
Scenographer: dUCKS scéno
