Maison du Hip Hop in Lille
11 May 2010
King Kong architects won the design competition for a live music space for Lille. The new hall will be part of the program for the Euregional Center for Urban Cultures (rap, slam, hip hop, graff) which will be built next to the Maison Folie de Moulins.
The new peformance hall is designed as a city courtyard between the two buildings, with two levels of catwalks around the room that remind of the escape stairs as found at the exterior of old american buildings. Both organizations will have access to the centrally placed performance venue, which will have 200 seated or up to 700 standing. In addition to the main peformance and presentation spaces, the Center will have a bar, (dance) studios, (graff) workshops, and exposition spaces.
dUCKS assisted the architects with the development of the building concepts, and will provide consulting and design services for all scenography for the performance and exposition spaces, including theater machinery, audiovisual and theater lighting systems.
The project is fast-tracked, with construction due to start early 2011.
