ADJKM laureate Concert Hall Caracas
15 July 2009
The international design competition for a new concert facility for Caracas, Venezuela was won by ADJKM. The design received the first prize out of a field of 55 firms.
The competition was initiated by, amongst others, La Corporación Andina de Fomento y la Fundación del Estado para el Sistema Nacional de las Orquestas Juveniles e Infantiles de Venezuela, and co-financed by the Corporación Andina de Fomento (CAF).
The program includes three major performance spaces: two concert halls (1 900 and 1 700 seats), and a large performance/rehearsal venue (500 seats). In addition, there are several more rehearsal rooms of various dimensions, as well as a conservatory.
The proposed design provides the students, artists and audiences with a very clear organization of the building, with many opportunities to meet, share rehearsal and performance spaces, and develop collaborations between professionals and students. The two concert halls are based on a vine-yard style layout, promoting a less formal exchange between musicians and audiences.
ADJKM was formed earlier this year out of the friendship between Alejandro Mendez, Daniel Otero, Jean-Marc Río, Khristian Ceballos, and Mawari Núñez, while working for several architecture firms in Paris. The design phase of the project is foreseen to start early next year.
